American Sycamore in central Indiana

It is the largest thing in almost any yard it occupies, and the one where entirely normal behavior generates the most wasted service calls — the peeling white, tan and gray bark that people report as disease is simply how the tree grows. What actually matters is scale: this is one of the most massive hardwoods in eastern North America, and it was routinely planted twenty feet from houses in the 1960s and 70s.
