How do I know if my tree has spotted lanternfly?
Grey egg masses that look like smeared mud, sticky honeydew and black sooty mould underneath the tree. It attacks tree of heaven preferentially, plus maple, walnut, grape.
What it does to the tree
Damages rather than kills most trees, but the honeydew and mould make a yard unusable.
Indiana specifics
Confirmed in Indiana and spreading, though not yet the everyday problem it is further east. Worth reporting a sighting to the state rather than just treating it.
