Is a tulip poplar common in central Indiana?
Native and abundant statewide, and planted heavily across central-Indiana subdivisions from the 1970s onward, so there is now a large cohort standing 40 to 60 ft over houses. It performs best on deeper soils and struggles most in newer neighborhoods where the topsoil was stripped and the clay compacted by construction traffic.
Why that matters for tree work
Indiana's state tree and usually the tallest thing standing on a central-Indiana lot, which is exactly why it ends up on a quote. It holds its lowest limbs high and carries most of its weight above 50 ft, so a tree 60 ft from the house still reaches the roof and nothing on it can be worked from the ground.
