Answered for Westfield, Hamilton County.
Westfield is the newest housing stock of the three by a wide margin — population went from 9,293 in 2000 to 46,410 in 2020 and 64,407 at a September 2025 special census, roughly a sevenfold increase in 25 years. Most of Westfield's trees went in the ground with the subdivision: 5-25 year old nursery stock, small caliper, some still staked in the newest sections, with mature roof-height trees confined to the old town core and to fencerow remnants left standing when farm fields were platted. That's the thing that decides what a black cherry here is likely to be — a mature specimen over a roofline, or nursery stock still establishing. Removing a black cherry around Westfield runs roughly $250–$1,400, and in Chatham Hills, Bridgewater and Viking Meadows access is usually what decides where in that range you land.
Overwhelmingly young planted stock rather than inherited woodland, with ash removed from the picture by emerald ash borer. If the 18-foot mature-height limit in §92.02 stands as written, Westfield's tree lawns are effectively limited to small ornamentals — no future large shade canopy over the street by design — but that section could not be independently verified and should be confirmed before it is relied on.

Listed as susceptible in the urban ice-storm tables and repeatedly named across multiple ice-storm studies as one of the worst performers of any eastern hardwood, because the wood is brittle and it drops whole scaffold limbs under load. In central Indiana that makes black cherry one of the first species on the ground after a quarter-inch ice accumulation, and it typically tears out at a branch union rather than breaking mid-limb.
No permit is required to remove a tree on private property in Westfield. Tree rules live in Chapter 92 (Trees and Shrubs, Ord. 96-30, adopted 12-9-1996) and govern the public way: Section 92.02 is reported to bar planting anything between the street and the sidewalk or property line unless it matures at 18 feet or less and sits at least 20 feet from any other tree or shrub and 20 feet from an intersection; Section 92.03 to require 14 feet of clearance over streets and 8 feet over sidewalks; and Section 92.08 to disclaim city and utility liability. None of those sections could be verified against a retrievable copy of the current code — confirm with the city before relying on them, particularly the 18-foot cap.
