How do I know if my tree has verticillium wilt?
One branch or one side wilts while the rest looks healthy. Olive-green streaking in the sapwood under the bark. It attacks maple especially, also ash, catalpa, redbud, smoke tree.
What it does to the tree
A soil-borne fungus with no cure. Some trees wall it off and live for years; others decline over two or three seasons. Watering and feeding buys more time than any product does.
Indiana specifics
Common in Indiana maples, and frequently misdiagnosed as drought stress.
