How big does a silver maple get and how long does it live?

Mature at 50-80 ft tall and 35-50 ft wide, with lifespans commonly quoted at 100-130 years but functionally shorter in a lawn because structural failures climb sharply once the tree is well past 30. Cost sits at the high end: big spread, brittle wood that will not take aggressive rigging, and typical placement tight to a house or drive push most of these into crane or large-bucket removals.

Spread below ground too

This is the sewer and sidewalk tree. Its roots are shallow, vigorous, and notorious for invading drain and sewer laterals, and in central Indiana's compacted clay they stay in the top few inches because that is where the oxygen is — so they lift driveways, crack sidewalk panels, and surface across lawns until mowing becomes impossible. Standard clearance guidance is about 40 ft from structures, walks, drives, and sewer lines, which essentially no subdivision lot ever gave them.
