How big does a red maple get and how long does it live?
Landscape cultivars run 40-60 ft tall with a 25-40 ft spread; the straight species goes considerably larger on a wet site, with 80-100+ years of potential life. Removal usually sits mid-bracket — a climbable one-day job for two people — unless it is a multi-stemmed hybrid leaning over a roof, which pushes it toward crane work.
Spread below ground too
A floodplain species that roots shallow and wide, and heavy clay pushes even more of that root system to the surface than normal — lifted sidewalk panels and cracked driveway aprons are the standard red maple complaint here. Roots cannot crack sound pipe, only exploit joints that are already failing, so the real reason to keep one off a sewer lateral is not infiltration but that you do not want to remove a mature tree the day the line needs digging.
