Does an ohio buckeye drop a lot of debris?
Two drops and both matter. Leaves come down early and dirty — often starting in August, brown and blotched rather than colored — and the spiny leathery husks release inch-wide buckeye nuts from early September into late October, which roll on drives, are hard underfoot, and are poisonous if chewed by children, dogs or livestock.
How much tree is dropping it
Typically 20 to 40 ft tall and about as wide in a yard, occasionally much larger on a river-bottom site, which puts most buckeye removals in the low-to-mid bracket — a climbing or bucket job, rarely a crane. It reaches sawtimber size in 60 to 80 years on a good site, but on dry compacted subdivision fill it stays shrubby and short-lived instead of ever becoming a shade tree.
